FAQs
Question: Ask Joe any mechanical questions Answer: Question: Why do the fluids need to be changed in my vehicle? Answer: At Leon's, we understand your need to have dependable reliable and safe transportation for you and your family. Having your engines oil and filter changed on a regular basis is an important first step to properly maintain your vehicle for a long life of dependability. Another very important factor is the remaining fluids in your car. These fluids need to be checked at every oil and filter service. Not just the level of the fluids, but the condition of the fluids. The trick here is to exchange your fluids before they get too dirty. If you purchased your car new, in most cases fluids start to darken in color around 30 to 40k miles. See more FAQ's for further information for each fluid in your vehicle and why it is important to exchange it. For questions? email: service@autofixers.com Question: Why/When to change Anti-freeze/Engine coolant? Answer: Your vehicle's engine longevity relies on how effectively your coolant can remove heat from your engine. Also it is formulated to protect and lubricate internal components of your engine's cooling system, such as your water pump. We also rely on this fluid to keep our cooling system from freezing solid in the winter, and severely damaging our engines. As this fluid gets older the various compounds or silicates do not stay in suspension as they were designed to do and settle to the bottom of your engine's cooling system. Obviously the fluid should be changed before it gets to this point, and you should be having it checked at every oil change. Usually a 50/50 mix will bring your antifreeze protection to -40F, and that is where you want it to be. It is important to understand that if antifreeze is overprotected, lets say to -60F, the antifreeze can work against you and actually gel up in sub-zero temperatures, and not flow as it should. Too weak and your enginge can freeze in the winter months.
